Global Plants

With “Global Plants”, JSTOR offers a collaborative platform with sophisticated functionalities that support research and teaching in equal measure: plant evidence can be measured and recorded, observations and objects can be exchanged with colleagues and fellow students, and global biological diversity can be explored.
The botanical web portal is intended to bring together regionally dispersed scientific content, the tools for its use and the interested scientific community around the world. It provides unified access to essential botanical content such as type specimens, taxonomic structures, scientific literature and other material and includes contributions from the more than 160 partners of the Global Plants Initiative (GPI) from 47 countries on 5 continents.

The database contains almost 2 million digitized type specimens from herbaria, plant illustrations and drawings, correspondence and other additional material, making it the largest collection of its kind.
Metadata and preview images (for herbarium specimens and other resources) are freely accessible. The high-resolution digital copies are subject to a charge.
