MLA International Bibliography

MLA International Bibliography is the most important bibliographic database focusing on the fields of literature, linguistics (including art and sign languages) and folklore of all modern philologies. The following topics are considered: language, literature, linguistics, folklore, English / American studies, German studies, classical philology, Oriental studies / other languages, Romance studies, Slavic studies. In addition, areas of the other humanities are included.
Approximately 4,400 journals (cf. MLA Directory of Periodicals) are continuously evaluated for this bibliography of secondary literature. Furthermore you can find collections, series, congress reports, commemorative publications, reference works, evidence (reference) from the dissertation abstracts and to a lesser extent also monographs.
Primary literature (except: critical editions and translations of literary works, when accompanied by a new critical or bibliographic apparatus or are based on a newly established authoritative text) and reviews (except: longer review articles) are not included.
The MLA contains more than 3 million bibliographic references and increases annually by about 70,000 citations. Most of the materials listed in the bibliography were published after 1926. However, some publications from as early as 1866 have been included.
Since April 2008, the MLA has also contained abstracts, e.g. from PMLA, Project Muse, JSTOR and German Quarterly.
In addition, since December 2012, the database has also included individual references to book reviews and for some articles a list of cited references and a separate search option for it.
