Die Sächsische Biografie präsentiert historisch bedeutsame Personen, die in der Mark Meißen, in Kursachsen bzw. im Königreich bis hin zum heutigen Freistaat Sachsen gewirkt haben.
Sie enthält derzeit (Stand: Juni 2005) Lebensdaten von etwa 7.600 Frauen und Männern aus verschiedenen Lebensbereichen sowie über 200 vollständige Kurzbiografien. Dieser Bestand wird sukzessive erweitert werden.
Die Sächsische Biografie will auch an weniger prominente bzw. vergessene Personen erinnern, die dennoch bleibende Spuren in der sächsischen Geschichte hinterlassen haben.
