Das Bildarchiv der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek enthält neben einer Porträt- und Ansichtensammlung, den Fotoarchiven Heinrich Hoffmann, Gerhard E. Habermann, Bernhard Johannes und Felicitas Timpe noch kleinere, in sich abgeschlossene Bestände.
Die Fotoarchive Heinrich Hoffmann und Bernhard Johannes sind vollständig katalogisiert und gescannt. Andere Teilbestände werden nach und nach bearbeitet und dann in der Bilddatenbank präsentiert.
Jedes Katalogisat in der Datenbank ist mit einem verkleinerten Bild verknüpft. Zugleich liegen die Bilder in optimaler Qualität auf einem separaten Rechner bereit und können für Publikationszwecke zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
