SOMED is a socio-medical literature database created in Bielefeld, Germany by the Institute of Public Health North-Rhine Westphalia. SOMED contains some 330,000 documents from the period between 1978 and 2000. These documents are predominantly in German or English and cover the following subject areas: occupational medicine, occupational toxicology, environmental health, health promotion, health sciences, health reporting, addictions, rehabilitation, medical statistics, environmental hygienic, environmental toxicology, epidemiology, and nursing.
