In around 150 keywords, the historical semantics in Germany is examined, which in the 20th century was characterized by asynchronicities, accelerated wear and tear, conceptual innovations and terminology revolutions. As an interdisciplinary research enterprise, the lexicon does not just record established knowledge, but serves basic research in the humanities, cultural, social and historical sciences. Exchange processes between scientific, political, literary-aesthetic and everyday language are examined, i.e. the entire diversity of the generation, circulation and change in meaning of terms. Hermeneutic procedures are combined with digital methods that allow very large text corpora to be included and evaluated specifically for conceptual history purposes. The articles will be published successively open access in the Schwabe Verlag e-library and, at the end of the project, in five printed volumes. The lexicon is being developed by the Berlin Leibniz Center for Literary and Cultural Research in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for German Language Mannheim and the Leibniz Center for Contemporary Historical Research Potsdam.
