The photo collection of photographer Erika Groth-Schmachtenberger (1906-1992) comprises around 10,000 black and white photographs from 1923 to 1984. The main focus of the collection is cultural-historical and folklore topics as well as city and landscape shots from the Bavarian Swabian and Old Bavaria area, also travel documentation from southern Europe.
In 1986, the University Library of Augsburg acquired the core of the collection, parts 1 to 51, a total of 8,875 photos. In 1986, in 2007 and 2013, this core stock was expanded by two gifts from private ownership by 1,120 photographs by Erika Groth-Schlachtberger. The original order of the collection created by the photographer - 51 thematically sorted boxes and folders - was also used to use the digital presentation of collection parts 1 to 51. The photo deductions acquired by gift were not incorporated into this core inventory, but are kept separately, sorted by theme groups, in ten of their own boxes with folders (parts 52 to 62). The same subject images (e.g. customs in the year) can therefore be found both in the core inventory and among the photos that have been added. The photographer's hand- or machine-written comments on the backs are reproduced in the field of description (original labeling) field. The collection of the collection was found online as part of the Bavarian State Library.
