North American Immigrant Letters, Diaries and Oral Histories

The collection contains over 100,000 pages of ego-documents (letters, diaries, pamphlets, autobiographies), which documented reports and experiences of contemporaries on immigration in North America (USA, Canada). Approximately 35,000 pages are from the Ellis Island Oral History Interviews. They document the experiences of immigrants from different countries, from Asia to Russia and Central and Southern Europe. The collection of sources focuses on the years 1890-1920.
