Die OGND bietet Zugriff auf die GND (Gemeinsame Normdatei), in der die bisherigen Normdateien Personennamendatei (PND), Schlagwortnormdatei (SWD) und Gemeinsame Körperschaftsdatei (GKD) sowie die Einheitssachtitel-Datei des Deutschen Musikarchivs in einer gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) zusammengeführt wurden.

Die OGND wird online aus der GND der Katalogisierungsdatenbank des Südwestdeutschen Bibliotheksverbundes (SWB) aktualisiert.
