The Stacks Project defines itself as an open source textbook and reference work for algebraic stacks and the algebraic geometry underlying them. It is a living document that has been maintained and developed by a community of over 500 contributors since the project began in 2005. With (as of October 2023) over 7500 pages of text linked by hyperlinks and organized by tags, as well as a search function, it is a hybrid of e-book and specialist portal. There is also an extensive bibliography. The target group is advanced students and researchers in algebraic geometry.
