Prosopographische Datenbank von Maschinenbauern 1825 - 1970

As the main contributor to the German economy in the 20th century, mechanical engineering is one of the country's most important economic indicators. The underlying network of relationships, which closely links business, politics and universities, is supported by a large number of actors. Mechanical engineers play a particularly important role as a group that provides subject-specific ideas at university and non-university research institutions.

With a further insight, which, depending on the source, goes beyond the purely biographical basic data on individual actors, this prosopographically designed database is intended to provide further information for research on mechanical engineers, preferably for historical network research, for historians and those interested in German mechanical engineering.

The database includes information from more than 4,000 mechanical engineers from the 19th and 20th centuries. However, for data protection reasons, the database only records people who worked in German mechanical engineering before 1970.

The following information was recorded:

Vital data; Origin, parental home, field of study, subject and place of study, academic teacher of most recent professional status, research submission or company
Participation in highlighted scientific topics or research alliances or other academic fields of activity
Memberships of the actors in professional associations, political parties, student associations, military veterans' associations, clubs, etc.
