Image database with a total of around 2 million digitized images of works of art and buildings in Germany and Europe. As a composite database, the image index combines the holdings of various institutions. Thus, indexing data and images from about 80 partner institutions (museums, monument offices, university and research institutes, image archives, libraries) are made available. The image index contains references to 1.4 million black-and-white photographs from various institutions that were published on microfiche between 1977 and 2000 under the name Marburg Index - Inventory of Art in Germany. These photographs and another 300,000 photographs from the microfiche publications on art in Egypt, Armenia, the Benelux countries, France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland form the basis of the topographical section (places). A large part of this material has been catalogued in greater depth over the years and can therefore also be researched in the Places, Artists, Portraits and Themes sections. An additional 171,000 digitized photographs from Foto Marburg, its partners, and from the holdings catalogs published on CD since 1995 under the name Digital Information System on Art and Social History (DISKUS) are fully recorded in the database. Note: Not all photographs indexed in the database are yet represented by a digital image. For 1.7 million photographs, a preview scan based on an image on microfiche is already available.
