Privilegiensammlung Österreichisches Patentamt: Technische Erfindungen 1852-1899

The privilege collection is a special historical holding of the library of the Austrian Patent Office and includes around 95,000 patent documents from the years 1852-1899. The documents, similar to today's patents, provided the privilege to produce an invention for a set period of time and protected it from imitation. Our privilege database offers science and anyone interested a unique insight into the world of technology at that time. These are handwritten descriptions, some of which also include beautifully colored drawings. We have already created collections of some inventors who are still well known today, such as Nicola Tesla or the Thonet brothers.
