The Denkmalatlas Niedersachsen of the Niedersächsisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege (NLD) has been online since 2020. It cartographically represents all of Lower Saxony's cultural monuments and contains a short description and justification for each monument. The basis is official maps and aerial photographs from the Landesamt für Geoinformation und Landesvermessung Niedersachsen (LGLN). The information is continuously updated as part of a comprehensive re-qualification and revision of the monument lists. All monuments examined are shown with area precision, i.e. down to the level of an ensemble, building or part of a building, and linked to the current address. In addition to the spatial representation, the monument inventory is also available in the database in text form, with dates (where known) and, to a large extent, with photos. The monument status is indicated for each object and the status of the re-qualification can be read: for objects that have not yet been examined, only the core data appears. Further re-qualification results are continuously added. The Denkmalatlas Niedersachsen is also a knowledge and communication platform that offers a wide range of different access and research options based on keywords, subject areas, individual monuments, architects, artists, etc. Archaeological and restoration objects are also recorded (denkmal.recherche). In addition, numerous publications and collections of the NLD have already been digitized and are also available via the online portal (denkmal.ressourcen). Thematic access to the diversity of cultural landscapes in Lower Saxony is provided by denkmal.themen, which illuminate specific questions about the Lower Saxony monument landscape and lead to the corresponding monuments throughout the state, as well as denkmal.objekte, which present individual architectural monuments separately and in more detail.
